Noble silence is the Buddhist practice of refraining from speech, screens, eye contact, gestures, distractions, and unnecessary activity. Your mind can settle, become clear, and turn inward toward true understanding.

The retreat is organized by Lake Monastery, Cambridge.  However, this residential retreat will take place in Five Oaks Retreat Centre, Paris, ON. Depending on the weather, meditation will be done both indoors and outdoors.

Yes, the retreat is residential. There are two accommodation options. on a single sharing rooms and double sharing rooms.
Bathrooms are shared for all rooms (8 bathrooms available for 20 participants)
Meals will be served at the shared Dining Hall; meditation will be at the private meeting hall (1,049 sq/ft).

The cost of the retreat is,

$ 375 for double sharing rooms, $ 450 for single sharing rooms.

The teachings are free of charge according to Buddhist tradition. You can make a voluntary donation towards the teacher and the Lake Monastery and you are eligible for tax receipts (for payments above $20).

This retreat is just right for the novice looking to meet their inner world with honesty and calm; it’s an immersive refresh for advanced silent mediators.

No prior meditation experience required.

You are supposed to participate in all 3 days of the retreat

  • Comfortable clothing
  • Indoor shoes or slippers
  • Blanket or Shawl for the meditation hall
  • Warm outdoor boots / optional ice walkers
  • Warm winter jacket, hat, mitts for walking meditations
  • Yoga mat
  • Water bottle
  • Headlamp or flashlight for bonfire meditation
  • An open heart and willingness to be still

Bring your winter wear as we might step outside for walking meditations. For indoors dress conservatively preferably in light colors.

Refer to the detailed retreat schedule, the entire time you spend at the retreat is part of the meditation practice. Including your mealtimes.

Please let us know your dietary restrictions.

The wondrous silence begins at registration. During check-in prepare to leave your cell phone.  Digital detoxes to reduce smartphone usage can effectively improve mental health, sleep and other well-being metrics

While you can use it for an emergency, the idea of the silent meditation retreat is to unplug yourself from devices. You can provide the Monastery landline as an emergency contact number (519) 267-0397.

While you can bring your friends & partners the whole idea is to find seclusion in silence. Which is the proven tool for self-reflection.

Indoors are not pet friendly, and it would be ideal if you do not have any responsibilities to attend to during the program.

To secure the spot make a non-refundable deposit of $100 at the booking (in case of cancellation we can offer a tax receipt on the same amount)

The balance payment is due by January 10, 2026
