Welcome to Information Page Of Katina-Rainy Season
Katiana Ceremony or the rainy season retreat is one of the oldest Theravada Buddhist traditions dating back to the time of Lord Buddha. The ceremony is usually held during the months of October and November at the end of the Vassana or the rainy season. At present, Katina Ceremony is one of the largest celebrations in the Theravada Buddhist community.
This is a wonderful opportunity for you to engage with the monastery and to acquire a great deal of merits by participating in various activities relating to Katina Ceremony.

The 2024 Katina ceremony will be held at our monastery at 1145 Roseville Rd, Cambridge, ON, on the 09th and 10th of November. Please visit the page to resave the Dana items and Pirikara.
The 2023 Katina ceremony will be held at our new monastery property at 1145 Roseville Rd, Cambridge, ON, on the 18th and 19th of November. Please visit the page to resave the Dana items and Pirikara.
The 2022 Katina ceremony was held at our new monastery property at 1145 Roseville Rd, Cambridge, ON, on the 29th and 30th of October. Please visit the page for more information.
2021 Katina ceremony was held at our new monastery property at 1145 Roseville Rd, Cambridge, ON, on 06th and 07th of November. The ceremony was held according to the social gathering limit of 25 people indoors with the help of directors.
2020 Katina ceremony was held at 229 Royal Oak Rd,Cambridge, ON N3E 0A5 on 24th and 25th of October. The ceremony was held according to the social gathering limit of 10 people indoors with the help of directors. Unfortunately, other devotees were not able to take part in-person.
2019 Katina ceremony was held at St Jacob’s Lions Hall on November 2nd and 3rd. Around 100 people participated in the event and 20 monks participated in Dahaval Danaya. Overnight Pirith Chanting was started at 9:00 pm and ended at around 5:00 am next morning.
2018 Katina ceremony was held at Waterloo Masonic Hall on November 3th and 4th. Around 100 people participated in the event and 20 monks participated in Dahaval Danaya. Overnight Pirith Chanting was started at 9:00 pm and ended at around 5:00 am the next morning.
2017 Katina ceremony was held at St Jacob’s Lions Hall on October 28th and 29th. Around 100 people participated in the event and 20 monks participated in Dahaval Danaya. Overnight Pirith Chanting was started at 8:00 pm and ended at around 5:00 am the next morning.
