Conclusion of Rainy Season Retreat

Dear friends in Dhamma,

With the guidance of our abbot, Most venerable Horana Anuruddha Thero, and with the support of Most venerable Wellawaye Udith Thero & Most venerable Gigummaduwe Suseela Thero, Seventh Katina Ceremony of WWBMMC and offering the new monastery property to Maha Sangha ended successfully on November 7th, 2021 following Pirith Chanting and alms giving to reverend monks.

Katina Ceremony is one of the eight-most merit making deeds that we can perform as Buddhists. We are grateful to WWBMMC resident monks for accepting our invitation to observe Rainy season retreat during the past three months at our monastery which enabled us to perform this valuable ceremony. We are also grateful for the valuable spiritual guidance we received during this period through Vas Dhamma Desana and Dhamma Discussions. With much respect, we gratefully remember the helping hands we received from other Buddhist organizations in the region to make this event successful.

Offering a monastery property to Maha Sangha is another one of the eight-most merit making deeds. We are so grateful for all of you who helped in many ways to acquire this property and to renovate it. We took the opportunity to offer the monastery to Maha Sangha during Katina ceremony, because many monks were attending this event. Renovations are still on-going. Once it is ready, the monks will move in to the property. You will be invited for a tour of the property and for a blessing Pooja then.

According to provincial Covid-19 regulations, we were unable to let all devotees participate in-person during the ceremony. Thank you for your understanding and co-operation. We are very sorry for the inconvenience of standing outside to drop off Dane items and to offer Pirikara. We truly appreciate your offerings under these difficult circumstances. We also would like to express our heart-felt appreciation to all devotees who helped to build and decorate Pirith Mandapaya.

The moment you heard about the ceremony, to the last action you took towards making it successful, many thoughts aroused and passed away in your mind. All these good thoughts turned into good merits for you. Every time you recall your Dana and other efforts, it will also bring you good merits. May these immense merits bring you good health, longevity, prosperity and guide you to attain the supreme bliss of Nibbana!

May you be happy and peaceful!
