Venerable Wellawaye Uditha Thero was born in 1993, in his hometown Wellawaya. He was ordained as a novice monk (Samanera) in 2005 and received his higher ordination (Upasampada) in 2016
He received his monastic education from Sri Liyanwala Dharmayathana Piriwena, Agalawatta since he enrolled in 2005 and completed the final examination in 2009 (Piriven Awasana). He also took the Preliminary Examination of Pracheena (Praramba) in 2010, and the Intermediate examination (Madya) in 2011, attached to The Oriental Studies Society of Sri Lanka, Ministry of Education. He has completed his studies under the GCE Advanced Level curriculum in Sinhala, Pali languages & Buddhist Culture.
Ven Uditha completed a stint in Russia undergoing a Russian Language Diploma attached to Kalmyki state university, Elista, Russia in 2014/15. He was also a resident monk at Hurul Tibetan Buddhist Monastery, Elista during that period.
Before he started servicing WWBMMC in 2017, he was a resident monk at Sri Sariputtaramaya, Matha rd, Manning town, Colombo since 2012. Currently, he is also a board member of WWBMMC as well as the principal educator of the Sunday school for kids of the WWBMMC community.
